Improved Database Access
The efficiency of database access and visualization has been improved, particularly for Geosoft Oasis montaj™ (GDB) data.

Workspace Tree Improvement

Workflows have been improved through simplification of the Workspace Tree and the addition of new controls to change the status of selection, edit and zoom for individual layers.

The main changes include:
* Selection and Edit controls have been added to enable interaction with feature databases and selectable objects.
* A Zoom function has been added allowing the user to zoom to the extents of a specific dataset of object in a single click.

Grid Surfaces

The grid controls have been enhanced to support a number of new data formats. In addition to this, a higher degree of control has been provided for color mapping and building custom visualization palettes.

Some of the new features include:
* New Color Mapping Control
User-defined color maps can now easily be defined via an interactive color mapping dialog. This provides simple or advanced options for applying custom color transforms to enhance the appearance of grid files and emphasize subtle variations that would ordinarily be hidden using standard transform techniques.

* Grid Flipper
Added continuous and strobe modes to animate multiple grid displays and reveal trends across multiple surfaces.

The automated grid flipping utility for frames per second/seconds per frame control has been replaced with two drop-down lists for the numerical values of the units and the units themselves (i.e. spf/fps).
* Support for the following grid formats has been introduced
- Arc ASCII grid files (.ASC) support added
- MINEX grid format (.XYZ) support added
- Surfer ASCII grid file (.GRD) support added
- JPEG 2000 image (.jp2) support added for Located Image Surfaces

Bar Chart Line Style Fill
A new bar chart rendering style has been introduced to the line series for curve profiles, vertical plot graphs and standard graphs. The bars can be rendered in a solid color based on the value of the first point and will extend to the next point. The bar is outlined with the default line color and style.

2D and 3D Vectors

Direct read support for a number of additional 3D vector formats has been added in this release. These improvements make it significantly easier to achieve seamless workflow transitions between Encom PA and other geoscience software applications.

Also available with the new functionality of vector files is:

* Improved property dialogs including new surface and transparency controls.
* Style overrides for line weight, style and color for all 3D vector formats
* Support for the following file formats
- GoCAD vector file (.PL, .VS)
- ESRI 3D shapefile (.SHP)
- Surpac DTM file (.DTM)
- Vulcan Triangulation file (.00T)
- 3D Studio file (.3DS)

* A new Make Fill Hollow override option for 2D vector file objects. The option can be accessed from the Override tab of the 2D vector file property pages. Turning on these options will not allow the appearance of vectors to be edited.
* When displayed in a 3D window, 2D vector files can be vertically offset by a DTM grid, constant value of vertically scaled.

Data Manager
A new window called the Data Manager has been introduced into PA for drag and drop, closing unused data links and property editing of database links. The Data Manager also assists in visualizing the use of active data files by showing how many windows a particular file is used in.

Bearing and Distance Tool
A bearing and distance line tool has been implemented into the Main toolbar, improving interpretation and analysis techniques. The tool supports the single distance, total distance and bearing azimuth for a single line and polyline information.

Data Conditioning

Any data field or individual band in an array can now be easily preconditioned to remove nulls, set limits or convert bad values to nulls. This feature is accessed from the Workspace Tree, by expanding the input channel selection then selecting an individual data band.

This tool is used with points, curves and drillholes.

Batch Printing to PDF
The Batch Printing Wizard now supports output to PDF file format when the PDF software application installed is pdfFactory. This allows profiles and map displays to be easily batch printed directly to .PDF format for a more superior hardcopy presentation.

Editable Spreadsheets
The station rate field values can now be edited via the database spreadsheet view. Only Geosoft and Intrepid database types can be modified. If data is modified via the spreadsheet then the Update Views button will become active in the spreadsheet view. Clicking the Update Views will then redraw the document with the new data values. An update of the views will also automatically happen when the user closes the spreadsheet view if they have modified some data.

ECW Creation
The Save As Located Image... pop-up menu for 2D map displays now supports output to the ECW file format. This utility supports coordinate projection image compression and advanced resolution capabilities.

Drillholes

The Drillhole group handling has been updated for optimized memory usage and rendering performance to handle the demands of working with large drillhole databases. These enhancements mean geoscientists can now easily visualize vast numbers of 3D drillholes in real-time and thereby gain a much better understanding of the geophysical and geological information contained within them.

Other improvements include:

* New data handling options to improve color and thickness modulation control. Invalid or unwanted data can be temporarily assigned a null value in order to exclude them from the display.
* When operating in the select/navigate mode, summary information about objects below the cursor is reported in the status bar for drillholes, images and features. This information provides rapid feedback to the user when interpreting geological features or interrogating anomalies.
* Simplified interface to improve workflow and usability.
* A number of additional drillhole desurvey methods have been added.

2D Kriging
The Kriging algorithm is now also available in the 2D Interactive Gridding utility. Kriging is a geostatistical gridding method combining powerful sample searching capabilities with a statistically rigorous estimation technique. Point or block estimations can be made using either ordinary or simple Kriging.

Breaklines in 2D Gridding
The breakline feature allows the easy introduction of interpretive data points into the gridding process, without modifying the original database. Users can then enhance terrain trends such as ridge lines and valleys that are not well sampled in the data. A fault trend can be added by placing two sub-parallel breaklines with different elevations in a data gap where you have inferred the fault location. This method can also be used to introduce manual padding of grids to enhance long wavelength results for reduction to pole and pseudo-gravity FFT transformations.

Voxel Models

The voxel model handling in PA has been enhanced to support a wider range of the file formats and new display options. These display enhancements make it easier to view subtle anomalies and improve visualization of targets in their 3D context.

* New Color Mapping Utility
Provides advanced options for applying color and data transforms to enhance subtle features and reveal potentially hidden information.

* New Transparency Modulation Option
The transparency of cells in a voxel model can be individually modulated by defining an opacity table and data transform. By applying the transparency modulation, important regions in a voxel model can be revealed whilst retaining the context of the surrounding model.

* Color Legend files can now be used as a reference for color modulation in discretized gridded voxels. Custom color tables can also be applied to threshold and isosurface displays, allowing lithological control of the voxel display.
* Gemcom block model format support has been added.

Improved View Mode

The 2D window supports new visualization options.

* New Full Screen mode allowing the 3D display window to fill the entire monitor screen, proving useful for presentations.
* New Anaglyph Stereo (red/blue) view option for 3D stereo visualization. This mode allows the 3D window to be switched into 3D stereo when viewed in combination with a pair of red/blue anaglyph glasses. When used in combination with feature digitizing, this mode can be very useful for structural interpretations and anomaly detection.

3D Cursor Plane

A number of enhancements have been made to the 3D cursor plane to support and complement the new feature drawing/editing capability.

These improvements include:

* New Clipping Options
The cursor plane property dialog now includes extra clipping controls, allowing the specification of either a clipping envelope or slice to be centered on the cursor plane.
* New Locking Options
The cursor plane can be locked temporarily along any orientation to constrain its position when drawing or editing features and slicing through the 3D view.

Transform Vector File Utility

In continuing Encom's commitment to improving data access and interoperability with PA, the original Transform DXF utility has been upgraded to support a range of additional 3D file formats and some new transformation options. Improvements include:

* Multi-Format Import and Export
A range of additional vector formats are now supported by the utility, including 3D Studio (.3DS), ESRI (.SHP, .ADF), MapInfo (.TAB, .MIF), Datamine (.DM), Gemcom (.BT2), GoCAD (.TS, .PL, .VS), Vulcan (.00t) and AutoCAD (.DXF).
* New Reprojection Option
Vector files can now be easily transformed and reprojected between standard coordinate systems.

3D Vector to Grid File Conversion Utility
A new plug-in has been introduced to convert a 3D Vector File (such as .DXF file) into a Grid Surface file. This is particularly useful when working with unconformity surfaces or sedimentary horizons such as coal seams where you want to convert these into a grid surface.

Supported File Format Converters

PA easily converts between different file formats. The list of conversion tools in PA is growing and the list below is to remind you of the flexibility.
